Release the key when you're given the option to boot a startup disk. When it has finished downloading, quit the installer without continuing, and instead follow the instructions in this article: How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support.When your bootable installer has been created, plug it into your problematic Mac and turn it on (or restart it) while holding down the Option key. Sign in with your Apple ID to view your purchases, then download the OS X Yosemite installer. On your working Mac, open the App Store and go to the purchased tab. If you can verify that your Apple ID and password work for other services (such as iTunes and iCloud), and if you have another Mac, you can image a copy of Recovery Mode for OS X Yosemite onto a flash drive.When the main Utilities window appears, select Install OS X to install a fresh copy of Yosemite without needing your Apple ID and password. This will boot Recovery Mode over the Internet.
